When Back Pain Needs a Physiotherapist — Not Another Painkiller
Dr. Simran · 28 Jul 2026 · 7 min

The 48-hour rule
If back pain is new, you may relative-rest for 48 hours. If you cannot walk across a room, or pain shoots below the knee with weakness, do not wait.
Red flags
Emergency signs: saddle numbness, bowel or bladder change, unexplained fever, or trauma. Those belong in urgent medical care, not a waiting list.
Why rest backfires
Bed rest longer than two days makes discs and muscles less tolerant. Guided walking is usually the first medicine.
What the first session includes
Your first Dr. Simran session maps what movement calms you, what flares you, and the smallest plan that will change the next seven days.
